VILLENEUVE - ''''WE HAVE A LACK OF RESOURCES'''' - SAUBER EFFICIENT, BUT LACK FUNDING
21 May 2005 - Jacques Villeneuve
Jacques Villeneuve put in a tremendous drive to secure an eventual fourth position at the San Marino Grand Prix and hopes that running the softer Michelin compounds again he can show well this weekend at Monaco.
However, the former Champion admits that the team are struggling as they simply do not have the funding enjoyed by its rivals. ''The infrastructure is there, we just need bigger budgets now,'' Villeneuve told his official web site JV- World. ''We have a lack of resources. We have a great wind tunnel but we don''t spend enough time in it. I''ve always been in teams where budget was not a problem, where we could get the parts we wanted and if we had idea we could just try them.'' Sauber Petronas may not be able to throw money and development parts onto the C24, but Villeneuve does appreciate what the team is achieving with its limited budget. ''The team makes an amazing use of the budget they have,'' the Canadian continued. ''With this amount of budget other teams would do less, it is very efficient but it would be good to keep this level of efficiency with more money.'' The team are expected to announce a switch from Ferrari engines to BMW in 2006 and beyond with current speculation suggesting that the German car giant will bring Nick Heidfeld over to the team as part of the deal in order to make way for Jenson Button moving to Williams. This however has not been confirmed by the team or BMW.
