OWNERS OF OLDER CARS SAVE ON ROAD TAX AND VEHICLE REPAIR PARTS
05 August 2008 - Car Parts Direct
There has never been a better time to run an older vehicle
More motorists intend to keep their vehicles for longer to avoid paying the increased road tax - they will also benefit from lower prices on service and repair parts claims a new report. According to a survey carried out by mail order specialist, Car Parts Direct, more motorists intend keeping their existing vehicle – especially if they already own a car over seven years old. Vehicles registered before year 31st March 2001 with an engine size under 1549cc will pay £120 a year. Vehicles over 1549cc will pay £185 increasing to £200 in 2010. Motorists with vehicles registered after 2001 can end up paying several hundred pounds more. And if you buy a brand new higher tax rated vehicle you’ll be charged £950 for the first year’s road tax in year 2010. Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct said “There has never been more reason to run an older vehicle – motorists have less money tied up, there’s only small depreciation, Insurance costs less and now drivers can save on road tax too.” Car Parts Direct also claims the cost of buying spare parts to service and repair a vehicle over eight years old costs on average 26% less than buying parts for the average three year old vehicle. Mark Cornwall continued to say, “Many of our customers will buy a top of the range prestige vehicle like an Audi’s, BMW, Lexus or Mercedes - Ideally registered before year 2001. The running costs are likely to be less for five years compared to buying brand new vehicle like a Ford Mondeo and running it for just one year.” Knowing how much the replacement car parts cost can help motorists make an informed decision about what vehicle to buy, own and run in the future.
