VOLVO I-SHIFT IMPRESSES AMG HAULAGE FOR TIPPER WORK
18 May 2005 - Volvo Truck Ltd
After running Volvo’s I-Shift equipped FM9 tipper demo vehicle for seven months, Alan McGuiness Haulage of Tideswell, Derbyshire, were so impressed they have bought an FM12 with the automated gearbox of their own.
''I was very impressed with the performance of the I-Shift gearbox while I had the demo vehicle,'' says AMG’s Managing Director Alan McGuiness. ''I love the way it changes gear, it’s really smooth and the truck never let me down while I had it. The disc brakes are also really good and the truck itself is lighter than I thought it would be. It’s a fascinating piece of machinery and I had no worries ordering one of my own.'' The 8x4, 420bhp rigid truck has been specified with a sleeper cab in ‘Comfort’ trim, CD player, electronic climate control and Alan has added leather and Dutch velvet to the interior, including leather and velvet seats, leather door panels and velvet curtains. Alcoa polished alloys are also included in the spec’, both to save on weight and make cleaning easier. Crossroads Truck & Bus of Rotherham, who supplied the vehicle, also fitted a walnut dash supplied by Kuda and a final touch is provided by a Kelsa top bar, Multibar, Low bar and Brake bar. The Wilcolite, smooth-sided insulated bodywork was supplied by Wilcox Commercial Vehicles Ltd of Peterborough, while the tipping gear was supplied by Edbro. Plated at 32 tonne GVW, the vehicle is on a two year repair and maintenance contract with Crossroads Truck & Bus. AMG Haulage operate the vehicle from their Derbyshire base across the UK on aggregate, asphalt and bulk material contracts.
