GODOLPHIN TRAINER WINS DICK HERN AWARD
This annual award was introduced in 2002 and given to the racehorse trainer with the most Goodwood winners in the previous season. The trophy itself is a beautiful Philip Blacker-sculpted bronze which was presented by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ general manager, Anthony Eastwood. Godolphin has become synonymous with international competition, training its best horses for the world''s major races. Saeed bin Suroor enjoyed a phenomenal first season in 1995 as he trained the winners of Europe’s top three races – the 1995 Derby at Epsom, Ascot’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp. He has enjoyed 50 winners at Goodwood since his first in 1995. Anthony Eastwood said, “We are pleased to be sponsoring this trophy for the fifth year on our home turf. Goodwood is one of the most beautiful racecourses on the international scene and I am delighted that the Dick Hern Award has been presented to a truly world-class trainer.” The Rolls-Royce award-winning facility – where all the company’s cars are manufactured – is located on the Goodwood Estate.
