THE 2007 SEASON STARTS HERE
16 March 2007 - Jenson Button

After an off-season that lasted nearly five months, the Formula 1 World Championship kicks back into action this weekend in Australia.

Jenson arrived in Melbourne on Tuesday morning, having attended Honda’s pre-season press conference in Tokyo the previous day. He will take to the 5.3-kilomentre Albert Park track for the first time on Friday morning, driving the Honda Racing F1 Team’s striking ‘earth car’.

“I really enjoy the Australian Grand Prix,” he says. “There is a great atmosphere at the track and the people are very friendly, although I find their accent a little hard to understand sometimes! Melbourne is a great city, with great restaurants and lots going on, and it’s where I began my Formula 1 career in 2000, so it’s always good to come back.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s 58-lap GP, Jenson hopes to improve on his best result in the race to date, which was sixth place in 2004. He started last year’s race from pole position, but retired within sight of the finish line with a mechanical problem.

''With all the rule changes over the winter, and the switch to one tyre manufacturer (Bridgestone) and rev limited engines in particular, it’s going to be a very closely-fought season,'' he says. “Everyone at the Honda Racing F1 Team is working incredibly hard and we have made a lot of progress with the RA107 in recent weeks.

Everything that we have been working on over the winter needs to come together this weekend. We need to ensure that we choose the right strategy for the race and we must have good mechanical reliability. I can’t wait for the action to start.''
