SOLUTION FOR MOBILE CALLS WHILST DRIVING
26 February 2007 - Car Parts Direct

MILLIONS OF MOTORISTS IGNORANT OF NEW MOBILE PHONE LAW

Motorists driving while using a mobile phone will receive a £60 fine, three points on their licence and if they argue the case in court the fine could rise by up to £2,500. The new law comes into effect on Tuesday 27th of February. A new report claims as many as 20 million drivers may be unaware of the new tough legislation.

Thousands of motorists will lose their licence by not knowing about the new law claims the report carried out during January. The survey found 36% of motorists risked driving while using a mobile phone believing a £30 fine is the worst that can happen. And most of these drivers believe they were very unlikely to be caught.

Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct said, “Our survey revealed that whilst 94% of motorists realised it was an offence to drive while using a mobile phone, only 13% of drivers claimed to know about the new tougher law raising the fine from £30 to £60 and adding points to their licence.”

Mark Cornwall continued: “The new legislation has not been given anything like enough publicity. Drivers need to know the consequences of their actions before they are caught – not after. Lots of motorists have points on their licence for other offences such as speeding. Some drivers will find out about the penalty points for using their phone when it’s too late – they could lose their licence, job and income through ignorance.”

Car Parts Direct claims to have found the ideal solution to encourage motorists to drive legally whilst using their mobile. They have developed the Rossini Chat2U-ICU hands free kit which allows total hands free calling, voice activated dialling, caller display and the device is transferable between vehicles in seconds.

The Chat2U-ICU requires no fitting and clips straight on to the sun visor. Sound and voice quality is claimed to be excellent due to a unique sound suppression system.

Mark Cornwall said, “Most hands free kits are so poor quality they are virtually unusable and so the drivers continue to pick up the phone. Our research found that motorists will use a hands free kit if it’s simple to operate, offers excellent sound quality and are able to know who’s calling to avoid answering certain callers. The latest Chat2U-ICU has hit the spot in trials to encourage motorists to drive hands free.”

The new Rossini Chat2U-ICU hands free kit complete with caller display costs £79.95. Visit www.carparts-direct.co.uk or call 0870 977 9666.
