11 January 2007 - Autosport International Show 2007
Team RAC has announced that they will race the BMW 320si E90 in the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The car was unveiled to the media today (11 January) on press preview day at the Autosport International show at the NEC, Birmingham. Public visitors to the RAC stand (Hall H6, Stand 6140) at the show will now be able to see the new Team RAC car close up. After a successful first season as sponsor of Team RAC, RAC will be looking to the BMW 320si E90 – which won the World Touring Car Championship for Andy Priaulx in 2006 – to spearhead their hunt for silverware. Dick Bennetts, WSR Team Principal, said: “Having decided not to design and build new cars for 2007, we conducted considerable research into all available options and have chosen the BMW 320si – and are looking forward to the challenge in 2007. BMW Motorsport is a very professional organisation and able to provide the level of technical support required by Team RAC.” Debbie Hewitt, Managing Director RAC, said: “We are delighted to confirm that Team RAC will be racing the BMW 320si E90. 2006 was a superb inaugural season for Team RAC and we’re looking forward to building on that in 2007. With the performance of the BMW confirmed and the announcement of our drivers for the coming season shortly, supported by a superb team, we are confident RAC will have reason to cheer on the track in 07.” BMW 320si E90 Technical Information: Dimensions Length: 4535 mm, width: 1845 mm, wheelbase: 2763 mm, minimum weight: 1140 kg Engine 4-cylinder in line, longitudinally installed; distribution: two overhead camshafts, 16 valves; displacement: 1999 cc; bore x stroke: 86 86 mm; compression ratio: 11:1; maximum output: 275 bhp @ 8300 rpm; maximum torque: 242 nm @ 7250 rpm; engine management: BMW Motorsport ECU 404; lubrication: wet sump Transmission Rear wheel drive; gearbox: BMW Hpattern 5-speed, with straight cut gears and dog engagement; clutch: carbon-fibre single plate; differential: mechanical limited slip differential Brakes Power assisted dual circuit system; front brakes: 4 piston calipers, 332 mm steel ventilated discs; rear brakes: 2 piston calipers, 291 mm steel discs Chassis Front suspension: double joint strut, coil springs, gas filled dampers, anti roll bar; real suspension: five arm multi link axle, coil springs, gas filled chambers, anti roll bar, steering: power assisted rack and pinion
