PREDICTIONS FOR 2007
27 December 2006 - Car Parts Direct
RECORD NUMBER OF ''BANNED DRIVERS''
Eighty-six percent of ALL motorists admit to breaking motoring laws that could Ban them from driving. It is only by luck they don''t get caught - new research claims drivers luck is about to run out with record motorist disqualifications predicted for 2007. According to the Home Office 13.5 Million motorists had points put on their licence in the last year of complete driver statistics - this was the highest ever recorded. In the same year 221,400 drivers were banned from driving. A New survey reveals that whilst 86% of ALL motorists questioned admitted to occasionally breaking motoring laws that would add points and could result in a ban, most drivers stressed their actions as a genuine mistake or oversight, claiming it was never their intention to break the law. The most common offence admitted was for speeding, followed by ignoring a traffic sign, driving through a red light and using a mobile phone while driving. Other offences were illegal parking and crossing a double white line – some motorists admitted drinking while driving. Mail order specialists, Car Parts Direct who carried out the research predicts a rise in driver disqualifications. Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct said, “There are already over a hundred offences that can add points to a driving licence. It will be virtually impossible for motorists to avoid picking up points, or worst still a ban in 2007.'' Mark Cornwall claims improved technology with speed cameras will have the largest impact for motorists, followed by the new mobile phone law. Under new legislation motorists will for the first time have points added to their licence as well as an increased £60 fine. More than 100,000 motorists only received a fine using mobile phones while driving during 2006. The research was carried out during the development of a new Satellite Navigation system that not only recommends the best routes for motorists to drive, it also shows the best lane to drive in to avoid dangerous lane changes. It warns of every known speed and traffic light camera in the UK . The driver is made aware if they are exceeding the speed limit on any UK road. It even shows the nearest car park to avoid penalty points for dangerous and illegal parking. Cornwall added,'' A simple mistake can leave a motorist without a licence. The Rossini Navigator and Speed camera Spotter gets the driver to their destination on time, by the best route and helps our customers avoid points to keep their driving licence.'' The New Rossini Navigator and Speed Camera spotter database of camera locations is claimed to be the most complete in the industry.
