JAAMA ANNOUNCES DATES FOR MORE AT-WORK DRIVING HEALTH AND SAFETY SEMINARS
20 April 2006 - Jaama

Continuing demand from companies for expert advice on implementing occupational road risk management policies has led to Jaama announcing dates for a further three health and safety seminars.

The road safety and fleet software specialist trained more than 350 companies in occupational road safety best practice in 2005 and has given advise to almost 60 more organisations at seminars held in recent weeks.

Jaama says that the seminars meet demands from specifically small and medium-sized companies for help in co-ordinating and implementing occupational road risk strategies aimed at reducing the number of road accidents involving at-work drivers - a major focus of the Government, police and Health and Safety Executive.

Next month’s seminars are being held on: Tuesday, May 16 - Thistle Hotel, Brands Hatch; Wednesday, May 17 - Corus Hotel, Bristol; and Tuesday, May 23 - Corus Hotel, Elstree.

The seminars cost £375 per delegate but for the first 25 bookings Jaama is offering the choice of an additional free delegate place per company or a £100 discount. In addition, each company attending will receive Jaama’s RiskAssistant software which is specifically designed to enable fleets to get to grips with their duty of care requirements.

RiskAssistant includes online DVLA licence checking, insurance management, accident and risk management, online driver risk profiling, duty of care policy parameters and journey logs and management reporting.

Jaama managing director Jason Francis said: “We recognise that the operators of smaller or employee-owned fleets do not always have the luxury of a full time, dedicated fleet manager and often new legislation and best practice advice is missed. With this in mind we have developed a complete package to help companies meet all their duty of care requirements, run a safer fleet and reduce fleet overheads

“Our duty of care seminars, lead delegates through the legislative minefield and cover areas such as, easy steps to a safer fleet, implications for their business, best practice guidelines, performing risk assessments, employer responsibility, policy essentials and the benefits of managing work related road safety.”

Workshops during the afternoon session include an overview of vehicle fleet management essentials with the help of technology and full understanding of the sample policies issued to delegates and how they can be adapted within their business.

During the seminar delegates will receive: sample fleet policy/fleet policy template;
sample drivers handbook/handbook template; seminar documentation; a copy of the Health and Safety Executive’s ‘Driving at work: Managing Work-Related Road Safety’ guidelines; and RoSPA’s guidelines on Safe Journeys, Mobile Phones and Safer Speeds

After attending the most recent seminars Julia Bates, HR advisor at the Leicester Housing Association, said: “The seminar was very interesting and informative. Really worth attending” and Roger Smith, health and safety officer, Westfalia Separator Ltd, of Milton Keynes, said: “It was excellent with good course notes and examples of risk assessments and fleet policies.” While, Steve Beadle, fleet co-ordinator, Cromwell Tools, of Leicestershire, said: “The seminar was very informative and put risk management into understandable terms.”

Mr Francis added: “Implementing driving at-work best practice need not be as daunting as it first appears. With the correct policies, procedures and audit trails in place companies can satisfy their duty of care requirements. These implementations in turn will reduce crashes through better driving standards, reduce insurance premiums, reduce accidents and related costs and reduce overall fleet operating costs.

Jaama is believed to be the first company to integrate road safety services and vehicle management software under its Key2 Risk Management brand. The company, which recently won the 2006 award for Best Fleet Software from the Institute of Transport Management, has also launched a dedicated website, www.key2roadsafety.co.uk, which aims to help reduce the hazards associated with driving on company business by providing information, guidance and best practice advice.

To book your place at a forthcoming seminar go to the Jaama website at www.jaama.co.uk or telephone 01827 304750 and quote booking codes SEM375 - 2 for £375 or SEM100 - £100 off booking.
