The Rolls-Royce Dick Hern Award, introduced in 2002 and awarded to the racehorse trainer with the most Goodwood winners in the previous season, has been presented to Marcus Tregoning at the Kingswood House Stables at Lambourn. Marcus trained seven winners at Goodwood in 2005. Having worked in the racing industry all his life Marcus readily acknowledges the great influence on his career of 14 years spent as Assistant to Major Dick Hern. Marcus’s main patron is Sheik Hamdan Al Maktoum. In addition to the beautiful Philip Blacker sculpted bronze trophy, named in honour of Tregoning’s former mentor, the stable received a cheque for £1,000. Ian Robertson, Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, ''I am delighted that the Dick Hern Award has been presented to such a world-class trainer. Goodwood is one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world and we are very pleased to be sponsoring this trophy for the fourth year.'' The Rolls-Royce Phantom is hand-built at the award-winning manufacturing plant on the Goodwood Estate.
