SCOTLAND BOOST FOR MAZDA IN MARCH
13 April 2006 - Mazda

Mazda Motors has maintained its momentum in Scotland gaining share once again in a market that has dipped 6.5 per cent so far this year.

Boosted by good showroom performances by the Mazda3, Mazda6 and the Mazda MX-5 roadster and RX-8 coupé, the ‘Zoom-Zoom’ brand has had a record March for both sales and market share. Mazda maintained its three per cent market share running ahead of the 2.38 per cent it finished the year on in 2005.

Sales director Jeremy Thomson said: ''We are delighted with the record sales success in Scotland because the market is very tough at the moment. Most manufacturer car sales are down over the year right across the UK so our dealers are having to put in a lot of hard work, and this has been particularly effective in Scotland.''

March, being one of the two annual registration plate changes, is always a busy month at car dealerships and Mazda’s sales hit a record 1,177 vehicles, almost double the number it sold in January and February.

Half of that March figure left the showrooms of Mazda’s two biggest Scottish dealers, Arnold Clark and Phoenix Motor Group.

Arnold Clark sold 445 vehicles through its outlets in Stirling, Aberdeen and Kirkcaldy. The Group is also investing in a new Mazda outlet in Glasgow which is scheduled to open in July and will trade as Machargs.

A further 102 Mazdas left the Phoenix showroom in Linwood. This was the first time they had hit over 100 sales for Mazda in a single month. Thomson said: ''We are pleased with the performance of all dealers in Scotland and Phoenix has done particularly well in what is only its second full year with the franchise.

''We have also seen good sales performances from Murray Motors in Edinburgh and from long serving dealers such as Struans in Perth, who celebrate 25 years with the Mazda Franchise this month. Overall, we have had a terrific month and a great start to 2006 across all of Scotland.''
