BEN LAUNCHES CENTENARY APPEAL AT LONDON’S GUILDHALL
27 February 2005 - BEN Motor & Alied Trades Benevolent Fund
This year BEN, the Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund will be celebrating 100 years of care and support in our industries.
To honour the start of this landmark year, BEN hosted a formal reception attended by their patron HRH Princess Alexandra, followed by a luncheon at the Guildhall, London on Thursday 27th January. The charity also used this opportunity to publicly launch its Centenary Appeal, the aim of which is to raise an additional £3 million income throughout its birthday year with the purpose of safeguarding the Fund for future generations. Hailed as a success, the event was attended by numerous key figures in the industry, many of whom pledged support for the appeal, bringing the total committed to date to just over £1,250,000. During the luncheon both Sir John Egan, Appeal Chairman and Christopher Macgowan, BEN’s President spoke passionately about the appeal. They outlined why such a substantial figure is needed to underpin the Fund’s infrastructure and extend its service provision, and asked those with a connection to our industries to take responsibility for the welfare of their colleagues by supporting their charity through this appeal. Russell Marriott, BEN’s Centenary Appeal Director commented: ''The level of support that has been pledged by such a small number of key figures in our industries is overwhelming and their promised contributions have really kick started this project. However there is still a long way to go and if we are to reach our target of £3 million we will need the support of everyone working in our industry. Whether you are a salesman or MD of a major manufacturer there are lots of ways in which you can help to make this appeal a success, so please get in touch.'' BEN is the Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund, the only occupational charity for those who work or have worked in the motor and partner industries. Founded in 1905, the Fund provides practical help, support, advice and friendship to more than 15,000 men and women and their families every year in addition to operating four residential homes in the UK and offering day care facilities at its centre in Coventry.
