Jazz supermini claims overall win in Auto Express Glass’s Guide honours

The Honda Jazz has won the prestigious Used Car Of The Year award, the ultimate accolade in the Auto Express Glass''s Guide Used Car Honours 2006. Honda picked up an impressive tally of five awards; three more than its nearest rival. Audi, Kia and Nissan all claimed two awards each – see below for the full list of winners.

The panel of judges, which relied on detailed new and used car data from EurotaxGlass’s to allocate awards in 18 categories, praised the Jazz for its flexible interior, robust build quality and impressive residual values. After three years and 36,000 miles a Honda Jazz currently has a trade value 61 per cent, putting it well ahead of any other rival in the supermini segment.

As well as claiming the overall ‘Used Car of the Year’ award, Honda won in four other categories: Hot Hatch (Civic Type R), Estate (Accord), Compact Family Car (Civic) and Supermini (Jazz). In addition to the awards given to individual vehicles, there was an award for Used Car Scheme of the year, won for the second year running by MINI for its Cherished used car programme.

“The Jazz remains in a class of its own within the highly competitive used supermini market,” explains Jeff Paterson, Senior Car Editor at EurotaxGlass’s and a leading member of the judging panel for the awards. “Critical to this success has been the way the supply of used examples has been balanced with prevailing levels of demand. This has enabled the inherent qualities of the car – most notably its practicality and impressive build – to be reflected in impressively high residual values.”

In order to qualify for entry in the Auto Express Glass’s Guide Used Car Honours a vehicle must have been available to buy new for more than 12 months. Evaluation criteria include: depreciation, whole life costs, practicality, reliability, market sentiment, road test reports and owner feedback. EurotaxGlass’s provided data on more than 3,000 cars, from which the judging panel drew up a shortlist.
