METROCAB ARE ON THEIR WAY BACK
27 February 2005 - Metrocab
Metrocab, the Tamworth based purpose built Taxi manufacturer was placed into administration just over twelve months ago with a loss of 100 jobs. They confirmed last July that they would be re-starting the business.
Mark Morris said today, ''We have been restructuring Metrocab to enable it to operate as a business which has an achievable cost base ensuring its stability year on year. This will provide Metrocab with a secure base from which to fulfill its long term objective of being a major supplier of custom build Taxi''s to a world market''. He continued, ''Throughout the last few years Metrocab has, for one reason or another, found it difficult to survive in this highly competitive market. The new management team installed within Metrocab has spent the last few months carefully looking at both the business and the sector in which it operates. We felt it important we do not just re-launch back into the market with the same business model that had failed twice before, but spend time ensuring its long-term future''. Morris added, ''As a result of this Metrocab has closed both its Manchester and London dealerships and will sell its vehicles directly to authorized franchises with no direct sales taking place to the public from the factory''. ''Metrocab will not be involved in the secondhand market, a sector in which we have previously struggled''. ''Our aftermarket side of the business has also been restructured to ensure the Metrocab TTT Taxi is fully supported in the parts sector''. Morris said, ''Authorized outlets will carry out warranty work and service agents will be appointed, all of which will have full factory back up''. ''We shall be in a position over the next couple of weeks to supply GRP panels to the aftermarket and we have already been supplying TTT spares to the same market for the last few months. Hopefully this side of the business will increase over the coming weeks as the market sector becomes aware we are trading again''. ''We shall also in the short-term be able to offer the use of our painting services whilst our envisaged production schedule is being finalized''. Mark Morris added, ''On the new vehicle production side we shall initially drip feed one vehicle per week into the market, which will enable us to set up and finalize our new business model using a franchised network, whilst slowly increasing our production output to our target figure of four to five Taxi''s per week as the year progresses''.
