TEIFI TIMBER TAKE DELIVERY OF NEW GENERATION VOLVO FH Carmarthenshire-based Teifi Timber Products Ltd - the first company to order one of Volvo’s new generation 13-litre FH trucks - have taken delivery of their new truck and have already put it straight to work. Operating from Llanllwni, the specialist timber saw millers and pallet manufacturers have chosen a 6x2 tag axle 520bhp FH with sleeper cab and Volvo’s automated I-Shift gearbox from Volvo Dealer Mansel Davies & Son in Llanfyrnach. ''We have run Volvo’s for a number of years and they have proven very reliable,'' says Director Gerwyn Thomas. ''Our drivers like the trucks and the back up and servicing we get from Mansel Davies has always been excellent. The new truck will run on round and square timber haulage work.'' Launched last September the new Volvo FH provides improved driver comfort, higher performance and increased efficiency. The 13-litre D13A engine is lighter than its predecessor - the D12D - but is also more powerful and efficient. The stroke length has been increased for greater cylinder volume and higher torque. The result is faster acceleration, better driveability with fewer gear changes and lower diesel consumption. The engine is also more powerful, allowing a higher average speed and more cost-effective driving.
