VOLVO SPONSORS SHIRLEY ROBERTSON''S BID FOR 3RD GOLD MEDAL
08 March 2006 - Volvo Cars

Volvo Car UK has renewed its sponsorship of double Olympic gold winning yachtswoman and Team Volvo for Life member, Shirley Robertson OBE

Robertson has announced that she is going for gold for a record-breaking third time at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and also that she is expecting twins in July!

Annie Lush (26) and Lucy Macgregor (19), both from Poole in Dorset, join Team Shirley Robertson to campaign for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Volvo, as the principal sponsor, and the Isle Of Wight Economic Partnership and BT as supporting partners have all happily returned to back Shirley''s latest Olympic bid which could make her the greatest British female Olympian of all time.

''As an outstanding sailor and great ambassador for her sport, we were pleased to have Shirley as a founding member of Team Volvo for Life and are delighted to be able to extend our support to Shirley and her campaign for a third gold medal at Beijing,'' commented Hugh Reid, managing director of Volvo Car UK.

Shirley replied: ''It''s a great fit for us. Volvo has an understanding of striving towards excellence, of never settling for second best and, of course, always looking to improve.''

Annie and Lucy have many years competitive sailing experience and will be busy racing this summer while Shirley and her husband, Jamie, prepare for another challenge – becoming parents to twins.

''Jamie and I are delighted at the prospect of becoming parents. There are 29 months until Beijing and I am confident there is enough time to have the twins and run a great campaign for Beijing. There are many women who succeed at having a family and successful career and, like them, my goal is to do both to the best of my ability,'' commented Shirley.

''Obviously I won''t be racing again until the end of the year but I''m fully committed to managing the campaign and planning the training and racing for the girls and the boat over the next six months. If everything goes to plan, I''ll be back on the water in the early autumn,'' she continued.
