CITROËN POPS UP ANOTHER WINNER

Citroën has once again been honoured by Europe’s largest automotive publishing group, receiving the prestigious 2006 Innovation Award at the Auto 1 Awards ceremony in Geneva, for its pioneering and potentially life saving, active bonnet system.

Significantly this is the second year in a row that the group, with over 20 publications across Europe, including the UK’s Auto Express magazine, has honoured Citroën for its commitment to innovation and safety.

The active bonnet system, featured on Citroën’s flagship C6 model, has been developed to minimise any injury to a pedestrian in an impact by instantly ‘popping’ up the bonnet, in just 4/100th of a second, to create a cushioning effect, keeping the pedestrian’s head from making direct contact with the engine block.

This innovation has contributed to Citroën C6 becoming the very first car in the world to be awarded a maximum 4 star Euro NCAP pedestrian safety rating, as well as a maximum 5 stars for occupant protection, making it arguably the safest car on the road.

Managing Director of Citroën UK, Xavier Duchemin, said ''This award is further evidence that Citroën’s innovative technology is bringing real world benefits. Last year our
life-saving Lane Departure Warning System captured the attention of the judging panel and now our active bonnet system has done the same.''

This latest innovation award adds to the Company’s growing list of accolades, which include What Car? magazine’s 2006 Safety Award, and further establishes Citroën’s vehicle line up as arguably the safest around.

Citroën’s commitment to safety has helped place the Company’s superminis at the top end of Euro NCAP results whilst the C4 and C5 remain two of the safest family cars available.
