AUTOCAR DRIVES INTO ITALY
01 March 2006 - Autocar

Haymarket Magazines has signed an agreement to launch Autocar, the world’s longest-running car magazine, in Italy.

The launch of Autocar Italia will increase Autocar’s worldwide audience to nearly 1.5 million.

Haymarket’s partner in Italy is De Agostini Periodici, part of the De Agostini Group, which will publish a monthly edition of Autocar.

Patrick Fuller, Autocar''s Publishing Director, said: ''This is a milestone in Autocar’s 110-year history and we are delighted to be moving into Italy. It is a car industry heartland and full of people who love cars - prime territory for us.

''We could not have hoped for a better partner than De Agostini Periodici, whose media expertise and passion for publishing will give Autocar Italia the best possible future.''

Speaking about the announcement, Federico Curti, CEO of De Agostini Periodici, said: ''Italians have a deep passion for cars, and they love design, technology and motorsport. They’ve been waiting for a magazine that combines Autocar’s authority and Italy''s love of all things automotive.

''De Agostini Periodici, which has a long, successful tradition in lifestyle press, regards the agreement with Haymarket as one of its most important strategic assets for the future.''

Autocar Italia will be headed up by editor Luca Grandori.

The De Agostini Group, which celebrated its centenary in 2001, is an Italian multinational that has interest in the media, communications, lottery, insurance and finance sectors. In 2004, its publishing group, led by Pietro Boroli, reported revenues of 1,705 million euros.

The agreement with Haymarket is De Agostini Periodici’s first foray into consumer publishing, but its new agreement with Haymarket will lead to the publication of other Haymarket titles under licence.

Autocar was launched in 1895 and is published in the United Kingdom. It has editions in Czech Republic and Slovakia, Greece, Denmark, Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, South Africa, Middle East, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. These are produced either under licence or via joint ventures.

Haymarket Magazines is the United Kingdom’s largest independently owned publishing company with a portfolio of over 150 titles, ranging from specialist consumer magazines to business titles and customer publications.
