VOLKSWAGEN AT THE GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2006
28 February 2006 - Volkswagen (UK)

A number of new products will be on display at this year’s Geneva Show. In summary, the highlights are:

Concept A: Crossover design leads way for new compact SUV

Polo BlueMotion: Fuel efficient diesel power with 72.4 mpg

Eos: The only convertible-coupé with a glass sunroof

EcoFuel: CNG/petrol bi-fuel engine in Touran and Caddy

Golf GT: Technically advanced 1.4-litre super and turbo charged engine

Concept A

This concept is a crossover between a sports car and a compact SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle)
Elements of the study will be clear when Volkswagen reveals its forthcoming new compact SUV
In terms of size, Concept A is 4,348 mm long, 1,854 mm wide and 1,551 mm high, making it 144 mm longer, 95 mm wider and 66 mm higher than Golf. The Concept A wheelbase is 24 mm longer than that of the Golf
The styling combines a coupé-like silhouette with a raised SUV stance; the shield-like front grille, seen on Passat and Jetta, extends downwards to create part of the underbody protection
Opposing opening doors, hatchback and pick-up style rear tailgate all feature on Concept A, providing a glimpse of what is technically possible for future product
In the Geneva study, for the first time, the unique Volkswagen TSI (turbo and supercharged) engine is powered by natural gas (CNG) – the super-clean 1.4-litre TSI engine develops 150 PS. Six-speed DSG transmission and 4MOTION also feature
The name comes from the vehicle’s A-segment size
