VOLVO RELIABILITY AND ROBUSTNESS CONVINCES NIXON HIRE
21 February 2006 - Volvo Truck Ltd
Plant and site equipment hirers Nixon Hire have taken delivery of two new Volvo FM12 8x4 rigid trucks – with a further four due to go into service over the next few months - as part of a multi-million pound fleet modernisation programme.
The trucks, the first Volvo trucks the company has bought, are 380bhp rigids with 9-speed manual gearboxes, Day cabs in ‘Fleet’ trim and air suspension. Supplied with PM 50 Series 50 tonne/metre cranes, the bodies are multi-purpose Dependable Bodies flat bodies with a cheese wedge back end allowing for use as a beavertail. ''We decided to go with Volvo for the first time due to the vehicles excellent reliability and longevity,'' explains Group Transport Manager Stephen Howard. ''It’s a tough industry and we plan on these vehicles lasting at least five years, but could run them up to seven. The accessories available factory-fitted were exactly what we were looking for as well.'' Sourced from Volvo Truck & Bus Centre North at Newcastle, the trucks are plated at 32 tonne GVW, and will operate from a number of Nixon Hire’s depots in Scotland, the North East and North Yorkshire, transporting plant and site equipment including diggers, 10-tonne dumpers and excavators. Volvo will maintain all the vehicles on a three-year repair and maintenance contract.
