VOLVO’S FIRST FACTORY-FITTED CREW-CAB IS OK FOR JK ENVIRONMENTAL
14 February 2006 - Volvo Truck Ltd
Hertfordshire-based JK Environmental & Son Ltd are the first company in the UK to take delivery of Volvo’s new factory-built 5-man crew cab on an eight-wheeler.
The FM12 8x4 rigid truck has been fitted with a specially designed Eur-Mark ‘Hercules’ wet/dry vacuum tanker from Vallely Tankers of Leeds and is operated by a four-man crew. ''Volvo were able to provide exactly the type of cab we were looking for ‘factory-built’,'' says JK Environmental’s owner Tony Roach. ''We’ve bought a number of Volvo’s over the last couple of years which are working well and the service we get from Volvo is good.'' The specialist truck is used for sucking up powder, sludge and aggregates for disposal at treatment plants on behalf of customers including Severn Trent, Southern Water and Anglia Water. Rated at 420hp, the truck features a 9-speed manual gearbox, while the 5-man crew cab has been fitted out in ‘Comfort’ trim, featuring electronic climate control. The Finnish-built stainless steel body has a capacity of 15m3 and the equipment provides suction power of 9,000m3/hour and 93% vacuum. With on-board jetting and washdown facilities, the unit can be operated remotely via radio telemetry. The vehicle will be based at JK Environmental’s base at Royston and will cover the South East and East Anglia. It will be maintained on a two-year repair and maintenance contract with Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, who supplied the vehicle.
