INAUGURAL RACE CAR LIVE! SHOW DECLARED A GREAT SUCCESS
07 December 2004 - Motorsport Vision
Organisers of the very first Race Car Live! event at Brands Hatch have declared its debut last Saturday a great success after hundreds of race competitors visited the famous Kent circuit, just 25 miles from London.
Race Car Live! was created by Brands Hatch owner MotorSport Vision. The event was unique compared with other pre-season motor racing shows in that prospective competitors could see the huge variety of race cars actually lapping on the Indy circuit, as well as talk to the championship co-ordinators and teams present, to help them decide which championship to contest in 2005. Some 500 people streamed into the Brands Hatch pit lane to look closely over cars from 27 different exhibitors, providing an eclectic mix of machinery. These varied from the Benetton Formula 1 car of Brands Hatch lap record holder Scott Mansell, who again demonstrated the spectacular 600bhp machine, and the historical Formula 1 cars of Classic Team Lotus, representing the Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship, to the diminutive saloons of the Dunlop Mini Challenge. Most rungs on the ladder to Formula 1 were present such as UK Formula Ford, Formula Renault UK and Formula 3. Meanwhile, club racing was ably represented by cars from such exhibitors as Radical, Caterham, the Pirelli Maranello Ferrari Challenge and the 750 Motor Club''s Formula Vee championship. MSV managing director Jonathan Palmer said: ''I was thrilled to arrive at Brands Hatch to find a pit lane absolutely heaving with people and cars, with every test session packed with action too. The teams and championship organisers I spoke to were pleasantly surprised at how busy it was and how worthwhile the event had been for them. Such reaction is very exciting, particularly as I only thought of the idea in October so time has been very short for everyone involved and of course to get it in people''s diaries! There is no doubt Race Car Live! worked and will be back, bigger and better in 2005!'' Many of the cars on display in the garages also took to the track to demonstrate what they could do, and exhibitors and visitors praised MSV''s innovative approach to the event. Britcar co-ordinator John Veness said: ''Thank you to Jonathan Palmer for a new initiative. The atmosphere was fantastic and we had some good, serious enquiries. It''s certainly something that can be built upon for next year.''
