DELEGATES RATE ACUMOTIVE’S RAV4 TRAINING EVENT ‘BEST EVER’

Specialist automotive industry support company Acumotive began 2006 with a highly acclaimed event in Rome to introduce Toyota’s new generation RAV4 to the people who will be distributing it to retailers across Europe.

One week in January saw a selection of RAV4s put through their paces in diverse driving conditions as part of a training and familiarisation package for Toyota’s European management from 26 countries.

Using their in-depth knowledge of facilities across Europe, Acumotive had identified tyre maker Bridgestone’s European Proving Ground in Rome as an ideal venue to provide hands-on experience of the technological advances designed into the new RAV4. Driving facilities there include a handling track and a high-speed oval, while special test conditions such as a slippery low-mu surface were scientifically created.

This variety of driving conditions enabled the participants in the specially formulated Acumotive driving programme to appreciate the new RAV4’s Integrated Active Drive System by direct comparison with the model’s predecessor and selected marketplace competitors. Five different exercises, spread over two sessions, included braking tests and slalom driving on low-grip surfaces as well as 200km/h dry track motoring with a professional driver.

The participative driving activities and other elements of the training programme so impressed delegates that the event was rated as their ‘best ever’ training experience. Much credit for this outcome went to the Acumotive team, who also facilitated the classroom sessions that drew the crucial link between the memorable driving action and the new RAV4’s positioning in the market.

In the first session, under the heading ‘Recreation Redefined by Toyota’, delegates learned about the driving, design, quality, safety and technology issues inherent in the new RAV4 ownership experience. In the second, they gained deep insight into the market segment inhabited by the new model and the consumer psychology that affects individual buying decisions. The operation of a brand new sales consultant’s tool, the Technology Presenter, was also demonstrated.

On general aspects of Acumotive’s handling of this, the fourth major training programme entrusted to it by Toyota within the space of 12 months, there was high praise from delegates for the trainer kit and for the company’s expert planning and co-ordination of the event logistics.
