With considerably more power yet no more thirst for fuel, the latest generation Audi A4 3.0 TDI quattro is now available to order, featuring the 233PS version of the advanced V6 TDI engine that already powers A6 and A8 models in place of the original 204PS version used since launch.

The ultra-modern six-cylinder unit with common rail direct injection and piezo injectors made its A4 range debut in the new A4 Cabriolet, and propels the A4 3.0 TDI quattro Saloon to 62mph in an impressive 6.8 seconds on the way to a top speed of 152mph. Despite its 29PS power advantage, it manages to deliver the same 36.7mpg combined fuel economy figure as its 204PS predecessor, along with a comparatively modest CO2 output of 206g/km. This latest engine evolution is also equipped as standard with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to minimise particulate emissions.

Until June 30th 2006, the A4 3.0 TDI quattro - along with the majority of A4 Saloon and Avant models - is available with an upgrade to SE specification at no extra cost. In addition to standard equipment, SE specification adds 17-inch 16-spoke alloy wheels, an Audi Concert II radio with single CD player, cruise control, electric rear windows, aluminium window trims and the Audi Driver’s Information System (DIS).

Alternatively, it is also available as an S line model with a more overtly sporting bias courtesy of features such as 18-inch five-arm alloy wheels, exclusive S line body styling, sports suspension and sports seats and steering wheel. The full S line package is currently available at a reduced premium of £750.

The A4 3.0 TDI quattro SE Saloon and Avant models cost £27,025 OTR and £28,175 OTR respectively, and their S line equivalents £27,775 OTR and £28,925.

German luxury saloon meets Italian super car in the new Audi S8 quattro, which opens for UK ordering in April with an OTR price of £70,780 and will reach its first new owners here in June.

Using the Lamborghini Gallardo super car’s 5.0-litre unit, developed by Lamborghini in conjunction with Audi, as its foundation, the 5.2-litre V10 powering the new S8 quattro incorporates bespoke features that tailor its much-loved character to meet luxury saloon requirements, without diluting it. These include Audi FSI direct petrol injection for optimum responsiveness and efficiency, and the addition of a balancing shaft for maximum engine refinement.

Maximum power of 450PS is delivered at 7,000rpm, and peak torque of 540Nm at 3,500rpm, with up to 90 per cent of this total available from just 2,300rpm, enabling a 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed limited electronically to 155mph.

20-inch S-design alloy wheels shod with 265/35 ZR 20 tyres distribute the power to the tarmac via adaptive air suspension with exclusive S8 sport settings and the latest generation quattro four-wheel-drive system featuring a standard torque split of 40:60 (front / rear). Specially tailored Servotronic power steering also gives an even sharper response to inputs, and massive 15-inch front and 13-inch rear disc brakes ensure optimum safety at all times.

In addition to the 20-inch alloy wheels, V10 emblems on the front wings, aluminium-look door mirrors, a subtle integrated boot spoiler and four distinctive ellipsoidal tail pipes surrounded by a redesigned rear apron mark out the S8 quattro externally.

Inside, full leather upholstery with seat centre panels, side sections and head rests in contrasting colours, a three-spoke S quattro steering wheel with aluminium look gear shift paddles and facia inlays in either brushed aluminium or carbon fibre highlight this model’s special position in the A8 range.

The Audi evolution continues - The new Audi A4 3.0 TDI quattro Saloon and Avant models, featuring an engine upgrade from 204PS to 233PS with no change to their impressive fuel economy, are now available to order with prices starting from £27,025. The price of the new V10 FSI-powered S8 quattro luxury sports saloon has also just been confirmed at £70,780 OTR. UK orders can be taken from April, with first deliveries scheduled for June.
