AXOR DELIVERS FOR TNT
24 December 2005 - Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz has completed the delivery of more than 100 Axor tractor units into TNT Logistics’ famous orange-liveried fleet.

In recognition of the order the manufacturer sponsored one of the events at TNT Logistics’ annual Driver of the Year competition.

TNT Logistics has added 94 Axor 2543 tractors, all plated at 44 tonnes, to its national supply chain management fleet, and has also taken 10 Axor 1840s for 28-tonne work on a dedicated contract.

TNT’s General Manager, Technical Services, Richard Catley, says: ''In order to help us obtain a clearer picture of the product and its longer term reliability Mercedes-Benz provided TNT Logistics with a demo unit that was a year old and had covered 110,000 miles.

''The performance of that truck influenced our decision to invest in Mercedes-Benz. The Axor’s fuel consumption – although it clearly varies depending on the nature of the work – is very good.''

The trucks arrived via Birmingham’s Gerard Mann Commercials and the support package put together by the dealer and manufacturer included specialist training for both drivers and Operational Development Officers.

TNT Logistics’ Driver of the Year competition tests staff from across the company in a series of disciplines – road driving, manoeuvring and theory. Mercedes-Benz sponsored the latter, providing a prize of £500 worth of vouchers. Meanwhile, the overall winner, Paul Dyson of Rotherham, scooped the first prize of a brand new family car!

TNT Logistics employs 7,500 people at 150 locations, and operates a fleet of 3,500 vehicles and manages 740,000sq metres of warehousing space.
