BLACK CAB IS “THE GLORY OF LONDON”
17 December 2005 - LTI Vehicles
London’s iconic black cab has been hailed as “the glory of London” in a House of Lords debate.
During debate of an amendment to taxi licensing conditions, Lord Davies of Oldham also paid tribute to the “extraordinary and hugely admired limited turning circles”. Lord Faulkner of Worcester went on to say: ''All taxis should be purpose built. The iconic London black cab is the ideal for others to emulate. If all hackney carriages looked like those, the travelling public would be less confused and much safer....'' This unique feature on the Coventry-based LTI Vehicles cabs allow the London taxis to do a u-turn in just 25-feet, which makes them perfect for dropping off and picking up in narrow city streets. The comments were made in response to a proposed amendment from Lord Faulkner of Worcester during a debate on the Road Safety Bill. Matthew Cheyne, Sales and Marketing Director with LTI Vehicles, said: “We are delighted to have such an endorsement at this level. “The honourable member’s comments echo what many people feel – that the traditional London taxi is inextricably linked with the city and a unique international attraction, while being an integral part of the daily transport system for Londoners.” Miles Better News Agency
