HYUNDAI APPOINTS NEW UK SALES DIRECTOR
17 December 2005 - Hyundai
Fast-paced Korean car giant Hyundai has appointed a new UK Sales Director with more than 20 years industry experience at a senior level.
Guy Pigounakis joins recently appointed Managing Director, Tony Whitehorn, as well as Marketing Director Jim Campbell, Aftersales Director Graham Lightfoot and Finance Director Ray Pope as an executive board member of Hyundai Motor UK Ltd (HMUK). Pigounakis (47), who takes up his new post today (12.12.05), has held a number of key positions within the UK automotive industry, chiefly with Rover Cars and latterly MG Rover. His wider experiences include retail and franchising. Commenting on his appointment, Pigounakis said: ''Hyundai is widely recognised as a car company on the way up in the UK and globally. To be a part of that will be both challenging and exciting.'' HMUK Managing Director, Tony Whitehorn, said: ''We are sure Guy will be up to the challenge of delivering on our volume and franchise profitability aspirations in an increasingly challenging market place. He is well known and very highly regarded within the industry and we are delighted he is joining HMUK.'' Hyundai Motor UK Ltd became part of the global Hyundai operation in July this year when the South Korean-based manufacturer took control of the UK sales and distribution operation from the RAC Group. The take over followed Hyundai’s best ever sales performance in 2004, which saw it achieve 17 per cent sales increase in an otherwise flat market to secure a 1.5 per cent market share. Hyundai also increased its market share year on year in November 2005, despite a declining overall UK car market.
