VOLVO INTRODUCES IPOD ADAPTER AND DIGITAL JUKEBOX ACCESSORIES
10 December 2005 - Volvo Cars

Volvo has introduced two accessories to enable the new digital music generation to enjoy their entire music collection while driving.

*Apple iPod adapter
*''Digital jukebox'' hard drive

Many people remember when a radio or eight track cartridge player was the latest fashionable accessory, but since then in-car audio entertainment has rapidly progressed to FM stereo receivers, cassette and CD players, and the ultimate premium sound audio system Volvo now offers with Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound, 6xCD, 4x75 W amplifiers and as many as 13 speakers.

Now, with the sensational success of the likes of the Apple iPod, a new digital music generation expects a personalised selection of high performance music on the move.

Volvo iPod adapter – plug in and play

Volvo''s new Apple iPod adapter makes up to 60GB¹ of your favourite tracks or ''Podcasts'', available from your iPod through the car''s audio system.

The adapter and iPod fit discreetly out of sight in the centre arm rest and connect directly to the car''s audio system for high quality sound performance, and can be safely used via the car''s standard audio or steering wheel remote controls. The connection also charges the iPod while driving, yet when you park, you can disconnect it and take the music with you.

The adapter, which costs from around £107, plus fitting², is available for all Volvo S60 and S80 saloons, the V70³ estate and XC70³ AWD estate, and is compatible with the Dock Connector on the standard iPod, iPod U2, iPod mini and iPod nano (but not iPod shuffle).

Volvo dealers already have the Volvo iPod Adapter in stock.

Digital Jukebox

Another way to listen to your own choice of high quality digital music files in the car is via Volvo''s new digital jukebox. Developed in conjunction with automotive music specialists ''Phatnoise'', it enables up to 400 CDs or 500 hours of in-car musical entertainment to be stored on a compact 20 Gbyte cartridge which slots into a unit similar to the more conventional multi-disc changer, fitted out of sight in the boot. It is safely operated in the car via the standard audio controls, or the remote controls on the steering wheel, and provides the ultimate music collection to accompany even the most distant business or holiday destinations.

The cartridge can then be fitted in a docking station to connect to a PC or laptop to transfer digital music files under a variety of headings, such as artist or genre, via a PhatNoise Music Manager™ file management programme. It is compatible with many of today''s major digital formats, such as MP3 and also supports WMA, AAC and the professional standard, Ogg Vorbis. With an upper limit of 320kbps, the digital jukebox system can record the full wave and delicacy of sound at a level parallel to the original source.

The digital jukebox system can be fitted to the Volvo S60, S80, V70 or XC70, and costs from £582.
