STRALIS FLEET GROWS AT IAE
03 December 2005 - IVECO

Staffordshire-based Industrial & Agricultural Engineers (IAE) has taken delivery of a further three Iveco Stralis 6x2 tractor units

This brings the total within its fleet to nine, all supplied by local Iveco distributor Sherwood Commercials.

The Stralis AS440S43TX/P’s join a fleet totalling 20 commercial vehicles, 17 of which are Ivecos. Each of the trucks will cover approximately 120,000 km per year, delivering agricultural equipment and fencing manufactured by IAE, together with general haulage duties nationwide.

''We purchased our first Stralis in 2002 and they have been fantastic performers, and a good all-round driver’s truck,'' says Peter Plant, Fleet Manager at IAE. ''Our drivers routinely spend up to three nights away each week, so selecting trucks with superior levels of cab comfort is essential to both recruitment and retention.

''The driveline package has also proven to be very reliable, with the Cursor engine providing ample power and the EuroTronic automated gearbox coping well in all types of terrain and traffic conditions we encounter. Service backup from Sherwood Commercials has also been first class,'' he adds.

Purchased outright and expected to remain in operation for four years, each of the new Stralis’ carries the company''s distinct new corporate livery and are fitted with Kelsar light bars with twin roof mounted beacons.

They will operate with a mixture of flat and curtainside trailers, the most recent of which are fitted with Moffat Mounty forklift trucks, enabling IAE to meet its customers ever changing needs and demands.

The Stralis tractor units are powered by the proven Cursor 10 engine, affording a power to weight ratio of nearly 10 hp per tonne, ideal for 44 tonne operation. The engine is built at Iveco''s Bourbon-Lancy plant in France, with its 10.3 litre capacity capable of producing up to 430 hp between 1,590 and 2,100 rev/min and 1,900 Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,590 rev/min.

The engine is driven through the EuroTronic transmission, which offers either fully, or semi-automated shifts, and 12 ratios, ideally spaced with this type of operation. Eliminating a clutch pedal and optimising gear shifts also makes it extremely driver-friendly.

IAE is a privately owned company based in Leek, Staffordshire, which has been operating successfully in the manufacturing business for 40 years offering a complete service for the farming, fencing and latterly haulage industry.
