NEW INNOVATIVE ARTWORK ADORNS VOLVO TRUCK HQ
30 November 2005 - Volvo Truck Ltd
Volvo Truck and Bus have been working with Art & Design students at Coventry University to produce innovative artwork to go on display at their UK headquarters.
Volvo, in partnership with the University and David Wood Art of Osgathorpe, Leicestershire, commissioned second year students to produce work that reflected the core values of the company as part of their coursework for the year. A team of judges settled on four designs from students Tamara Bowitz, Dawn Hobday, Debbie Squires and overall winner Julia O’Connell, all of which are now on display throughout the Warwick offices. The designs include embroidered tapestries, glasswork and hung banners, but Julia’s winning design uses innovative video, music and ‘samplers’ depicting employee’s routes throughout the Volvo offices. “The whole project reflects Volvo’s wishes to get involved with local colleges and universities and encourage innovation amongst students,” explains Property Director Ian Ferguson. “We wanted something that was both personal and unique to Volvo and which reflected the core values of the company. We were very impressed with the overall standard of the work and especially with the artwork produced by Julia.”
