20 YEARS OF VOLVO FOR PARTON TRANSPORT
01 November 2005 - Volvo Truck Ltd
Parton Transport of Cannock, Staffordshire, have celebrated 30 years in road haulage and 20 years of Volvo truck ownership by recently taking delivery of a Volvo FH12
The Volvo FH12 arrived from the Stafford depot of Hartshorne Motor Services – the company founded by Stan Bachelor, who sold Mac Parton his first Volvo truck back in 1985! The latest addition to Mac’s all-Volvo fleet is a 6x2 tractor unit with the 460bhp version of the D12D engine: it is equipped with a Globetrotter cab, side air deflectors and a grille-mounted light bar. ''I was impressed with it,'' says Mac. ''It’s got everything a driver wants – air-con, power on the hills and comfort. I took it out on the motorway and bought it straight off! I’ve tried other makes, but I keep going back to Volvo. You can buy cheaper trucks, but you get what you pay for. For instance, I had an F10 that did 1,500,000 miles and I was still able to trade it in when I was done with it. From a driver’s point of view, I think a fellow I met in Holland best summed up the difference. He said that Volvo put a driver in the seat and build the truck around him, while others built a truck and then crammed a driver in!'' Mac is a confirmed used truck devotee. ''The one new truck I bought was the biggest disappointment I’ve had – though it wasn’t a Volvo.'' He is equally enthusiastic about Hartshorne: ''I always go back to Hartshorne: they’re near me, the staff are always helpful and I can talk to them personally. I’ve been a Hartshorne customer from the days of the F88, through F10’s and 12’s, and I always get satisfaction.''
