CELEBRATING IN STYLE, THE WRIGHT WAY
29 October 2005 - Mercedes-Benz
What better way to celebrate your 30th anniversary in business than by taking delivery of a new Mercedes Actros Megaspace tractor unit finished in stunning pearlescent white paintwork.
W Wright & Sons has added the Actros 2544LS to its ‘spot hire’ fleet, together with a 7.5-tonne, box-bodied Mercedes Atego with tail-lift, which it bought at the same time. The two new Mercedes have joined a fleet of more than 200 vehicles, which is dominated by the three-pointed star – as well as offering a full range of vehicles for self-drive spot hire, W Wright & Sons has also built a highly successful contract hire arm over recent years. The company was founded on a three-acre site in Cogenhoe, Northampton, in 1975. Husband-and-wife team Ivan and Marlene Roy were running a coal merchant’s business at the time and loaned a lorry to a neighbour, a move that sparked the birth of their new business venture. ''Looking back, it seems a strange move from coal to vehicle hire, but at the time it was a natural progression of the business,'' recalls Mr Roy, the Managing Director. ''The use of fossil fuel by domestic customers was on the decline, while the growth of the logistics industry was building momentum and Northamptonshire, literally, found itself at the centre of the action.'' In the years that followed, while the coal business dwindled the vehicle rental side thrived. W Wright & Sons’ new Actros and Atego arrived via Hatfield dealer S&B Commercials, which has also supplied another seven Actros 2544 Long Distance tractors, a 13-tonne Atego 1323 and four more Atego 815s this year, for operation on various contracts. Mr Roy says: ''Our Mercedes trucks and vans have proved highly cost-effective to operate over the years, while the back-up from both the manufacturer and its dealer network is first-class. Crucially, too, Mercedes vehicles are also easy to drive and very popular with our spot-hire customers.'' In 2003 W Wright & Sons recruited Mike Booth, a truck sales specialist whose CV includes lengthy stints with Mercedes-Benz and DAF, to take on the role of General Manager, focusing on growth and development. ''Whatever the size and type of vehicle we can provide the solution,'' says Mr Booth. ''Customer satisfaction is the name of the game and we pride ourselves on being highly flexible, a characteristic that is appreciated by those whose support we continue to enjoy.''
