VOLVO FOCUS ON ‘SAFETY AHEAD’ AT BIRMINGHAM CV SHOW
17 February 2005 - Volvo Truck Ltd
Volvo Trucks are focussing on safety at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC from 5th-7th May 2005, running with the ‘Safety Ahead’ theme.
Demonstrating their commitment to safety and innovation, the Volvo stand will contain one of the show’s safest product ranges, including the high-specification Volvo Safety Truck, an FH12 460 6x2 tractor unit bristling with a host of driver support innovations from Adaptive Cruise Control through Electronic Stability Programme to I-Shift automated transmission. Other safety features on the truck include TCS Traction Control, Hill Hold and Tyre Pressure Monitoring. Visitors to the Volvo stand can also enjoy the regularly staged ‘Safety Show’, featuring ‘live’ crash test dummies and daring gymnastics, described as ''taking safety concepts to levels never seen before''. In addition, drivers can test their skills and awareness of safety in a new future-orientated safety simulator. The driver has the opportunity to personally experience the benefits of modern driver support. Driver reactions and stress durability can be tested in simulators where the driver is subjected to various types of stress while driving. The future-oriented simulators show how driver support can enhance traffic safety since the truck can assess the driver’s current situation and modify incoming driver information accordingly. Other exhibits for visitors to enjoy include an FH16 cut-away cab, a D12 engine static exhibit, Transport Information Systems demonstrations - including Dynafleet Online - and parts and Roadcrew displays. More Volvo trucks, including an FL skiploader, an FM9 8x4 tipper and an FH12 tractor unit can be seen on display outside the main entrance to the show. Volvo will also be running two competitions, details of which can be obtained on the stand from any of the Volvo representatives.
