SERPENT COMES TO THE RESCUE WITH IVECO
25 October 2005 - IVECO
Berkshire-based Serpent Motorsport Rescue is operating one of the first Iveco Daily 3.5 tonne vans in the UK, fitted with its powerful and responsive 166 hp engine.
The Daily replaces a three year old Ford Transit and was selected for its performance characteristics, coupled with the availability of a heavy duty suspension and differential lock on the rear axle. It is being used to attend motorsport events of all sizes nationwide, ranging from club rallies through to major international events, where Serpent Motorsport Rescue provide medical, rescue, extrication and fire fighting facilities. Supplied by Iveco distributor Grays of Guildford, the vehicle is fitted out with all of the features found on board a typical ambulance, but also has a rescue compartment containing specialist equipment used at these events. Neil Tamsitt, Manager of Serpent Motorsport Rescue, says: “The Daily has proved to be a real performer since its arrival, with sufficient power to give us a good road speed whilst also enabling us to tackle the challenging environment of the rally world quickly and safely. “Compared with our previous vehicle, the specification of the Daily is far better suited to such demanding driving, which often sees us needing to make progress swiftly through off-road forest tracks,” he adds. The vehicle is finished in a bright red livery with conspicuity graphics on both sides and roof mounted flashing beacons. It is available for operation seven days a week and is crewed by volunteers, many of them employed by the emergency services. It is powered by a 3.0 litre HPT engine with a variable geometry turbocharger, producing a power output of 166 hp and a peak torque of 380 Nm. This engine offers the highest torque in its class, and also the most evenly distributed across the entire rev range and is a direct result of the experience Iveco has gained from building over four million light commercial diesel engines. The full Daily range comprises over 3,000 different models with gross vehicle weights from 3.2 to 6.5 tonnes and includes a comprehensive selection of vans, crew vans, chassis cabs and chassis crew cabs. This guarantees the widest possible choice for operators looking to purchase a robust light commercial vehicle.
