19 October 2005 - Volvo Truck Ltd
For the first time ever, a wider public is getting the chance to see Volvo Trucks’ new models. At the international RAI truck show, the wraps are coming off the Volvo FH and Volvo FM
These trucks are equipped with economical new engines that meet forthcoming emission legislation in Europe. The investment in the new models totalled 300 million euros. With the launch of the new models of the Volvo FH and Volvo FM, Volvo Trucks is taking a huge step forward with regard to technology and environmental compatibility. The all-new 13-litre engine has more power and better driveability than its predecessor and is available with power outputs of up to 520 hp. Compared with the current 12-litre engine, for example, it offers a fuel saving of up to five per cent. At the same time, the 9-litre engine has been upgraded and is more powerful, offering even better driving properties. Both engines meet the Euro 4 and Euro 5 emissions requirements that come into force in 2006 and 2009 respectively. The automated I-Shift transmission, which helps the driver drive in an economical, environmentally optimised and safe way, is also being unveiled at the show in a new and more advanced version. ''This new product range helps us strengthen the company’s position still further in Europe. The new Volvo FH and Volvo FM are undoubtedly the best trucks we have ever developed with regard to fuel economy, safety, environmental properties and productivity,'' says Staffan Jufors, President and CEO of Volvo Trucks.
