FOURTH OF FIRTH PROVES A THOROUGHBRED WINNER
18 October 2005 - Volvo Truck Ltd

DP Firth, trading as Transcold Northwest, the Oldham-based Warehousing and Distribution Company has recently taken delivery of a new Volvo FH12 tractor unit to join three other Volvo trucks in the fleet.

Since its arrival, the vehicle has been generating quite a stir amongst the transport industry and local competition for the new FH12 is no ordinary truck. It hosts a number of notable extras including side skirts, alloy wheels and roof bar spotlights.

However, the real eye catcher is the paintwork on the tractor unit. It sports an animal theme with horses as the main focal point on the vehicle. Owner Dane Firth waited 3 weeks for the artwork to be created and painted at a cost of over £8,000. ''It looks fantastic and it was certainly worth the wait,'' Dane commented.

Dane now has two custom-painted Volvo Trucks, both sporting an animal theme, with plans to continue this as the fleet expands. ''I want to stay with the same animal premise, but I’m not quite sure what animal I’ll have next,'' he added.

Just 3 months old and a little under 7,000 kms on the clock the spectacular Volvo has caught the eye of other leading truck manufacturers, as well as the eager eye of the general public. Most recently the FH12 took centre stage at this year’s Truckfest Northwest at the Haydock Racecourse where Dane was inundated with compliments. ''I’ve received a lot of praise for the vehicle. It certainly stands out from the crowd !'' he said.

DP Firth already had three Volvo trucks in the fleet before it was decided to recruit a new FH. ''The first Volvo I bought is now over 12 years old, on an ‘L’ registration plate. It’s travelled over 1.5 million kilometres and its still going strong,'' said Dane, ''That’s why I’m choosing Volvo. They’re durable, reliable and Volvo engines are exceptional. They just go on and on.''

Dane continued, ''All my Volvos have had very few problems which means they are spending more time on the road and less time in the garage. It makes me happy and therefore my customers happy - I can rely on my fleet.''

Dane’s new vehicle was purchased from the Stockport branch of Thomas Hardie Commercials, the Volvo Truck Distributor for the Northwest. ''I’ve been impressed with all aspects of the Thomas Hardie Group from their sales team to the delivery of my truck. As a former driver myself they understood my needs and knew exactly what I wanted. They’ve combined great service with a great product.''
